CHOOSE MY PLAN

HELPFUL TIP:

There’s probably a good reason why your character chose their career. Think about how certain talents and skills, a dominant positive or negative trait, or even an emotional wound might have influenced this decision. And once they're on the job, don't forget about the many work-related conflict scenarios you can throw at them to create tension and add complications.
OVERVIEW:
A lobbyist attempts to influence legislators on behalf of an individual, group, or organization. They seek to persuade politicians to propose, pass, defeat, or amend legislation for the benefit of the interests they represent. Many do this by conducting research and providing the politician with information in the form of charts, polls, graphs, studies, and reports to plead their case. While they are prohibited from directly using money to achieve their ends, they will hold fundraisers as a means of garnering favor.

A lobbyist working on a politician's behalf will take part in community outreach to discover the constituents' issues so those can be folded into the campaign and addressed. They may create press releases, documents, and other informative materials to respond to voter concerns and sway public opinion.

NECESSARY TRAINING:
There is no formal training for this career, but many lobbyists are former attorneys, government officials, or experts in policy. Most hold four-year or advanced degrees.
