Plan-Specific Coupons: Can I use one if I'm subscribed to a different plan?

While many of our discounts can be applied to any plan, we sometimes run special promotions using plan-specific coupons. These Plan-Specific Coupons can only be applied to the specified plan. If you're ever unsure about whether or not a coupon is plan-specific, consult the original promotional material that informed you about the discount, since we always include information about what plans a discount can be applied to. In a pinch, you can also reach out with a support ticket to find this information.

If you're not currently subscribed to the plan associated with a plan-specific coupon, the only way to use that discount is to change your subscription to the one in question. There are pros and cons to doing this (particularly to downgrading to a shorter-term plan to take advantage of a discount), so weigh them carefully. If you'd like to change plans so you can use a plan-specific coupon, here's how to do that:

1. Navigate to the My Subscription page and scroll down to the Coupons and Gift Certificates section.
2. Input the code exactly as it appears (with the correct caps, being sure there are no spaces before or after the code). You'll know the coupon has been added to your account when a message appears in that section telling you it's been added. Keep in mind that only one coupon can be used at a time, and if a coupon is already applied to your account, adding this one will overwrite the first one. So choose wisely.
3. In the Plans section, select the plan associated with this discount and follow the instructions to subscribe. Note that if you're signing up to the wrong plan, you'll get a message saying the coupon can't be applied. In that case, cancel the transaction before finalizing, then subscribe to the correct plan.
4. When you subscribe, any unused time on your former plan will be applied to your account as a credit. Both this credit and the coupon discount will apply to the invoice, and you'll only be charged for the remainder. If the subscription results in a $0 invoice (because the combined credit and discount were larger than the amount owed), the remaining credit will remain on your account and will apply to the next generated invoice.

Please note that this process doesn't extend your old subscription; it starts a new one with a new rollover date. You can always see when your current plan will renew by visiting the My Account page.
