HELPFUL TIP:

Emotional wounds will steer a character's behavior, corrupt his worldview, and cause negative traits to form. To understand exactly how this occurs, please read our tutorial for the Wound Thesaurus.

NOTE: We realize that sometimes a wound we profile may have personal meaning, stirring up the past for some of our readers. It is not our intent to create emotional turmoil. Please know that we research each wounding topic carefully to treat it with the utmost respect.
NOTES:
This wound differs from neglect in that a character had all their basic needs provided, but anything that might lead to greater happiness and satisfaction was absent. One's likes and dislikes were of little to no interest, achievements may have gone unnoticed, and a parent's work, hobbies, and desires would have come first. It is also possible that other siblings may have been put before the child; if this was the case, see the HAVING PARENTS WHO FAVORED ONE CHILD OVER ANOTHER entry for additional ideas.

LIES THAT MAY DEVELOP FOR CHARACTERS WITH THIS WOUND:
The world will never see them, no matter what they do
They're secondary to others, because the people are more important
They're a follower, not a leader
They shouldn't expect too much out of life
Their value is found in helping others do what they love
They're selfish if they put their own dreams and desires first
They're weak; that's why people walk all over them
They don't matter, and nothing they do will make any difference
People only notice those who are exceptional
