HELPFUL TIP:

Emotional wounds will steer a character's behavior, corrupt his worldview, and cause negative traits to form. To understand exactly how this occurs, please read our tutorial for the Wound Thesaurus.

NOTE: We realize that sometimes a wound we profile may have personal meaning, stirring up the past for some of our readers. It is not our intent to create emotional turmoil. Please know that we research each wounding topic carefully to treat it with the utmost respect.
EXAMPLES:
In the aftermath of a plane crash if one is immobilized by injuries
After a car accident when a passenger is deceased and one is waiting for rescue
Waking up in a mass grave
Being kidnapped and tossed into a trunk with another victim who is deceased
Being held somewhere with other prisoners who have died
Being abandoned in a hospital with dead patients because of a sudden mass evacuation
Waking up in a coffin with the previous occupant still inside
Needing rescue after a natural disaster when one is the only survivor in a collapsed building
Being a child left in an apartment with a parent who overdosed or died suddenly
Being put in a room with a dead body as a twisted punishment
Having one's companions pass away and being beyond immediate rescue (a climbing accident during stormy weather, etc.)
Being held hostage where some of the hostages have been killed but not removed
Traveling on a small airplane when a fellow passenger dies and the plane is unable to land immediately

LIES THAT MAY DEVELOP FOR CHARACTERS WITH THIS WOUND:
This was their fault and this is their punishment
They should be the one who died
They could have prevented this but didn't
They should have fought harder; this happened because they were weak
They can't ever be who they were before
No one will miss them when they're gone
The only way to atone for this is to make it up to the victim's family
The only way to honor the dead is to succeed for them
