HELPFUL TIP:

Emotional wounds will steer a character's behavior, corrupt his worldview, and cause negative traits to form. To understand exactly how this occurs, please read our tutorial for the Wound Thesaurus.

NOTE: We realize that sometimes a wound we profile may have personal meaning, stirring up the past for some of our readers. It is not our intent to create emotional turmoil. Please know that we research each wounding topic carefully to treat it with the utmost respect.
NOTES:

Many wounds stem from the results of conditional love: you didn't try hard enough; you embarrassed me; you broke my rules. Having a child, despite the joy that usually accompanies it, is one of the most stressful life events that someone can experience. When a pregnancy is unexpected or unwanted, the stress compounds. When the person coming to grips with this surprising change is then abandoned by her support system (in the form of parents, a lover, or a spouse), the result can be too much to bear. It could be the mother or father who is shunned in this situation, but because nine times out of ten, it's the mother who suffers rejection, this entry will focus on the wounding event from her perspective.
