Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
A wooden structure (struts, cross beams, reinforced frame, a platform, steps)
Rope coiled into a noose
A block of wood to step onto or a platform with a trapdoor
A pulley for the trapdoor
A mob-like group that crowds close to the platform
People holding rotten vegetables or stones
Local law enforcement (the police, sheriff, the local lord, a constable, an official, the captain, etc.) and the executioner
