HELPFUL TIP:

A deeply embedded fear often stems from trauma, so it can be helpful to explore emotional wounds that may be a factor. Your character might also become risk-averse, which can create problems in their relationships and limit their fulfillment. And for a character to achieve their story goal, they must overcome any fear-based thinking that's holding them back. The Character Builder is a great resource for pulling all these factors together.
NOTES:
This fear arises when a character sees what other people are experiencing and believes they're missing out on something rewarding. At its core, it's the perception that others are living fuller lives. Rather than simple disappointment, this fear induces anxiety, envy, and a deep sense of dissatisfaction.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:
Scouring social media to see what others are doing
Checking their phone frequently for missed calls or texts
Eavesdropping on the conversations others are having
Hesitating to commit in case something better comes along
Saying yes to every invitation
Strategically choosing friends based on who's at the center of the fun things happening
Gossiping (to prove the character is in the know)
Fixating on insignificant decisions
Making choices based on how the outcome will look to others or contribute to the character's image
Spending more than is wise to keep up with other people
Lingering at social gatherings
Taking a lot of photos
Only posting or sharing pictures that make the character look good
Needing to be on all social networks
Sacrificing sleep, nutrition, or other healthy behaviors
Taking unnecessary risks to fit in or be included
