HELPFUL TIP:

A deeply embedded fear often stems from trauma, so it can be helpful to explore emotional wounds that may be a factor. Your character might also become risk-averse, which can create problems in their relationships and limit their fulfillment. And for a character to achieve their story goal, they must overcome any fear-based thinking that's holding them back. The Character Builder is a great resource for pulling all these factors together.
NOTES:
Everyone has something to offer and wants to be appreciated for what they can do, so when their strengths and contributions are taken for granted, it can make them feel devalued. A character who has experienced or witnessed this could develop a fear of it happening to them at home, work, or other areas of life they've invested in.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE:
Being hyper-sensitive to real and perceived unfairness
Pointing out the value they've added to ensure it's not overlooked: “Good thing I'm around to help, eh?”
Believing their personal value is tied to being useful or what they contribute
Seeking validation and affirmation from others
Difficulty saying no
Overworking themselves
Purposely engaging in activities that offer validation (expressing gratitude, complimenting others, etc.)
Taking great care with their appearance
Going the extra mile to be thoughtful, helpful, or caring
Lighting up at the smallest signs of appreciation
Wanting credit for even small things
Soliciting feedback (and hoping it's positive): “Wasn't this a good idea?” or “How am I doing?”
Suppressing their feelings to avoid confrontation
Sulking or retreating when their ideas are rejected or their input is disregarded
