HELPFUL TIP:

Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
Rough plywood walls
Light shining through a sickle-shaped cut in the door
A peaked roof
A hole or toilet seat on a closed wooden bench
A roll of toilet paper on a wire hanger
Dirt clumps and dead grass fragments on the rough floor
Dead flies
Cobwebs and spiders
A mosquito trying to find its way out
A door with a hook latch
A mound of toilet paper and feces far below in the hole

SOUNDS:
The wind trying to sneak into cracks and edges
Creaking wood
Feet tapping against the plywood as the occupant does his business
Wind sliding through the tall grass that butts up against the outhouse
People walking across packed earth outside
The sound of farm equipment (tractors, trucks, backhoes, combines) starting up
Ranchers calling to one another or farm animals going about their day
The patter of urine falling through the hole
Someone banging on the door
