HELPFUL TIP:

Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
A concrete tunnel or set of supports going under a road or train track
Cars driving through
Pedestrians or bicyclists
A floor made of concrete or pavers
Light fixtures in longer passages
Daylight shining from the far side of a very short underpass
Walls painted with graffiti or murals
Discarded drug paraphernalia such as burned spoons, broken lighters, and used needles
Brightly-painted bricks
Ripped posters or ads hanging on the walls (if in a safer neighborhood and frequented by daily traffic)
Water running down the walls in rivulets or dripping from the ceiling to form puddles on the ground
Mildew stains and cracks
People turned into silhouettes as vehicle lights shine behind them
Structural pillars or arches in a particularly wide underpass
Stairs leading out of the ends of pedestrian underpasses
Burned-out lights that produce stretches of shadow
Cobwebs and spiders
Moths and bugs flapping around the lights
Crevices near the openings sporting bird nest remnants (sticks, moss, egg fragments, etc.)
